URGENT Cryptolocker Update!

The National Crime Agency’s  two week period for suppressing Cryptolocker Gameover malware is now over (Read Details Here) and in addition there is now another emerging trend by cyber criminals to infect your computer systems!

 

Cryptolocker

Emails containing web links, the web links of course are fake, and when clicked will try to infect your computer or redirect you to a website where it can automatically download the Malware or Virus.

 

These are once again coming from what look like seemingly legitimate sources such as a Court and SAGE see examples below;

Email Example 1 – A Court Summons
From: Notice to Appear
Sent: 23 June 2014 23:10
To: example@example.co.uk
Subject: Urgent court notice

 

Notice to Appear,

The copy of the court notice is attached to this letter.

Email Example 2 – Sage
From: Sage.co.uk
Sent: 09 June 2014 08:36
To: example@example.co.uk
Subject: RE: Invoice #1702068

Please remit BACs before 27/06/2014.

Please be EXTREMELY VIGILANT when opening e-mails and clicking on the links. CONTACT THE SENDER to verify its legitimacy before clicking the link.
 Recommendations

  • DO NOT click any web links that you are not certain about even when looking at Websites like Facebook
  • Inform your IT support people IMMEDIATELY if you think you may be infected
  • Make sure you have good tested BACKUP e.g. disaster recovery process in place which has a good retention policy. Contact us if you suspect this is not the case. We have a tested, secure, offsite solution to protect against this.

If you suspect you have a virus on your machine,

  • IMMEDIATELYUNPLUG IT from the network as the Cryptolocker virus will affect everything your PC is connected to including the server.
  • Don’t open any attachments unless you are EXPECTING THEM
  • If you are unsure about ANY email, that contain web links contact the sender BEFORE opening it
  • Never pay any RANSOM FEE if you are infected it can happen again
  • Be careful when using portable media devices such as USB sticks, external hard drives or media drives that have been used on other computers that are OUTSIDE OF YOUR BUSINESS
