I did a Geek Mother’s Day – so it only seemed fair to do the same for Dads. I am offering an alternative to all those CD compilations disks you see on the television that will “make a great gift for Father’s Day”!
Do I even have a CD player in the MX-5 for that “top down, road music” CD?
So here are my top-ten geeked out gifts (Michael, Jeremy, Sophie please take note):
Say it with Marvel
Having just gone to see Avengers End Game here is a topical present – just change the name to “Dad”.
Tech Kit In Tin
A multi-plug usb cable in a tin – and a cleaning gear to keep that shiny phone screen clear of finger prints.
Not a great photo but it is available at Waterstones on the High Street so if you forget you need a present, you can get this one on the day.
Ultimate Geek Pen
What else can I say. This is tool useful for James Bond, Illya Nickovitch Kuryakin, spies in general or Dad.
Universal Exports London
An obscure James Bond tee shirt.
Star Trek Uniform iPad Case
Wrap around protection for Dad’s iPad. Make it so.
I am Batman… Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman: Deluxe Edition
Geek trivia – DC Comics got it’s nane from one of the first comics it published, “Detective Comics”, so the name is Detective Comics Comics.
Batman made his debut in Detective Comics #27, May 1939. This book celebrates 80 years of Batman. It is available in dead tree and for the ebook/ecomic reader of your choice. I have a copy of this, and it is a great mixture of history and period stories.
Star Wars R2D2 USB Portable Universal Power Bank
This external battery charger is small enough to fit in a pocket and has enough capacity to extend the life of Dad’s smartphone.
ZX Spectrum Mug and 80’s sweet selection
Ask your Dad if he had a Spectrum computer, if the answer is yes, this is the present for him. He will probably share the sweets.
(A note for my children, I had a ZX Spectrum, but I am still using the mug your Mother got me for Valentines Day!).
What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions
Randall can answer such questions as:
- How fast can you hit a speed bump, driving, and live?
- When will Facebook contain more profiles of dead people than living?
- How many humans would a T Rex rampaging through New York need to eat a day?
I love this book and it is just the book for your geeky Dad.
This one is available as an ebook, a talking book and a dead tree book.
Doctor Who Sonic Spork
If your Dad is a Doctor Who fan, I think this has to be the “geekiest” gift for him. You can cook him a Father’s Day Dinner of fish fingers and custard and he can eat it with this.
There are also some geeky presents in my other article suitable for Mum or Dad, the Lego mug is one, so check that out if none of the above are good for your Dad.
Look out for the third part of this series – coming in November, The Octagon Team Guide to a Geeky Christmas.
