At this time of year the cyber criminals become a lot more active, it is their chance to get more money from unsuspecting consumers.
I have seen a lot more email slipping through the cracks, as the bad actors manipulate their malicious messages to avoid detection.
Over the last few days I have seen email coming through with Trojan’s attached to them. They mainly have consisted of a link to a malicious website and look a bit like this:
This one was pretending to be a voicemail, some may pretend to be an invoice or summons. Never believe the “verified from a safe senders list” statement!.
Be vigilant. Ask this question before clicking on anything – are they real?
Our antivirus did catch this one and removed the link or attachment before it arrived in my mailbox. But that won’t stop determined criminals from getting in. The best policy is user education.
At Octagon we offer cybersecurity user training, which is often your last line of defence if the hacker has avoided your technical defences, and can provide security advice. Check out our CISO’s Cyber News blog Smart Thinking Solutions, he has a number of articles there giving advice and guidance on malicious email issues.
My team and I can provide help and support when it comes to malicious email, often we are asked by our clients to give our opinion on suspect emails and links they receive – which clients find extremely useful. Octagon also supplies, installs and supports a full range of cyber security software and monitoring tools scalable to whatever size organisation you are.
