Clive’s weekly Cyber Security roundup – 17 June 2022

We will start with the positive news this week. Microsoft, included in it’s Patch Tuesday fixes for the Follina vulnerability. Let’s hope it is a fix that is effective?

The Russia Ukraine conflict is still a cyber security risk we should all be aware of:

The rest of the week has been a bit slow for cyber security reporting. The ransomware stats for the last month seem to have dropped a bit, however coming up fast is a revitalised threat actor, LockBit, of course distributing ransomware! There is no getting away from it, ransomware, is, and will remain one of the top cyber security threats any organisation faces. Have you got a plan?

There are a couple of stories this week looking at how threat actors can get their malware and ransomware onto your systems – that is usually some type of social engineering and phishing emails. They are well worth a read as all the more knowledge you and your team have about the “how”, will make your defences better.

This was also the week when Internet Explorer and in particular Internet Explorer 11, is no more. Microsoft stopped all support and security updates for their browser, that had been around since 1995. So do not use it.

There is a “weekend read” for Saturday this week – and it is about ransomware, highlighting two reports that will give you some useful underpinning knowledge. Sunday is Father’s Day so I am having a day off from the news… Unless something really big happens!
