Failing to address this NOW! will leave a sour taste in your mouth.
To go along with our special days month I thought I would use this space to ensure that everyone is aware of the Windows 11 deadline.
Windows 10 is no longer going to be supported after 14th October this year!
Windows 11 Deadline: What You Need to Know
Why the Urgency?
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will stop providing feature and security updates for Windows 10. This means that any vulnerabilities discovered after this date will not be patched, leaving systems running Windows 10 exposed to potential security threats1. For businesses and consumers not ready to upgrade, Microsoft will offer a paid Extended Security Update (ESU) program, but this is a temporary and costly solution1. This will also mean that you no longer qualify for Cyber Essentials if your company has it as your systems will no longer be secure.
Challenges and Considerations
One of the significant challenges for many users is the hardware requirements for Windows 11. Most of the time this isn’t just a memory upgrade. Windows 11 needs a specific processor and another chip called a TPM 2 chip. These simply aren’t available on older PCs and as such the whole computer will need to be replaced. The operating system is only compatible with PCs that have relatively recent processors, leaving many older devices unable to upgrade1. This has led to concerns about the environmental impact of discarding millions of still-functional PCs2.
Preparing for the Transition
To ensure a smooth transition, we and Microsoft recommend users start planning their upgrade ‘NOW’. This might involve purchasing new hardware or taking advantage of the free upgrade offer for eligible devices3. For those with older PCs, it may be time to consider investing in a new device that meets the requirements for Windows 11.
In conclusion, the end of support for Windows 10 marks a significant shift in the computing landscape. By upgrading to Windows 11, users can benefit from enhanced security, modern features, and a more efficient computing experience. Don’t wait until the last minute—start planning your upgrade today to stay ahead of the curve. In September there will be a mad rush and we expect the universities to be grabbing the deals. This will of course push the price of the equipment needed to go up due to the demand.
