Almost all of you will currently be using far too few passwords, most of which are weak. Passwords can be a pain to deal with, they always get in the way and slow you down, there are times when you mis-type one 4 times in a row and you may start to question your sanity.
Passwords as an idea aren’t particularly good in fact, they are usually in one of two camps: 1) it could be hard to crack but difficult to remember or 2) it is easy to remember and also easy to crack.
We are only human and it takes a lot of work to remember a twenty-long string of symbols, letters and numbers in a specific arrangement to achieve password perfection. Almost everything we do online today will require an account of some sort of security, and typically every account will require a password. You could have anywhere from 5 to 30 accounts actively used at any given time such as online banking, social media, supermarkets, charities, gaming, gambling and accounts used for individual apps. It comes as no surprise that people struggle to remember so many passwords. Imagine introducing yourself with a new name every time you met someone!
“Clearly then the thing to do is to use a nice, easy and short password and use it everywhere for everything. But what harm can it do? Most of my accounts are for silly things and I don’t really care…”
- You probably
WRONG!
